A suggestion was made that a cellphone tower should be erected at the Sandbaai Hall.
Mr. D Beukes said that he has contacted his contact and he found out that Vodacom now outsources the erection of cell phone towers. He will investigate the matter further.
Cllr. H Lombard had a discussion with Dir. Stephen Muller from Infrastructure and Planning, and she informed the meeting that Overstrand Municipality does not have a policy regarding cell phone towers at present.

The Chairperson informed the meeting that the application for the cell phone signal tower at Sandbaai Hall hasn’t yet gone to the Tribunal. All comments and recommendations must be submitted before 27 January 2023.
The application is for a 10 m high tower at the Sandbaai Hall.
Both Mr. Roberts and Mr. Beukes gave their input on the application for the tower at Sandbaai Hall. It was mentioned that there are 3 areas identified, the Sandbaai Hall, a location just above Hemel & Aarde Estate and a location as you go up Rotary Way. It is also important that the tower is high enough and have the correct hardware to be able to give coverage to the entire Sandbaai area.

That the necessary forms/documents/comments must be submitted in writing before 27 January 2023.

It was reported that Mr. Helgaard Boshoff from Town Planning Department was supposed to have prepared a document.
Mr. Beukes indicated that the current cell tower at Sandbaai Hall just needs to be made permanent instead of temporary to solve the problem. However, it was argued that this is not the best solution since the coverage of the current tower is insufficient and the tower should be higher. The Overstrand Municipality was blamed for not doing their work.

That Cllr. Lombard report to the Executive Mayor that the Town Planning Department has not done their work relating to the report about a cell phone tower for Sandbaai

POOR CELL PHONE SIGNAL
The Chairperson informed the meeting that the application for a 20m cell phone tower at the Whale Coast Mall was approved.
The application for a 10m cell phone tower at Sandbaai Hall is still in process.

5.2 Cell Phone Towers: Progress
The meeting was informed that the application for the cell phone tower at the Sandbaai hall is in process and will serve at the Tribunal Committee in 2 weeks’ time. The cell phone tower at the Whale Coast Mall was approved, but the applicant still needs to submit the plans to the Building Department. Progress is being made as Sandbaai is urgently in need of cell phone towers as the cell phone signal is very poor.
